: Race begins

Km 0 : YAMA Bivouac. Head in N/NE direction (46°), hilly sandy ground.

Km 1,8 : View overlooking valley on your left.

Km 3 : NOMBORI village on your left in the valley. Keep same direction.

Km 5,5 : Village of IDELI down below on your left. Small dunes on your left.

Km 7,5 : Series of crevices. Laterite.

Km 9,7 : Begin descent towards Dogon village of TIRELLI. Sandy.

Km 13 : CP1 at foot of baobab tree. TIRELLI village on your left. Follow sandy track in the wooded valley. Well-shafts 200m after CP1.

Km 17 : Just before AMANI village: crocodile pond on your right (the village's totem animal). Follow small laterite path under the trees. Direction N/NE (43°).
BANDIAGARA escarpment on your left.

Km 20,5 : Junction with sandy track leading to IRELI village.

Km 24 : Take turning on the left to join CP2. Well-shafts 200m further on.

Km 25,5 : CP2. BANANI village. Take the small path leading up to top of escarpment. Pass below the old villages of KOKORO and HAMOU. Climb up stone steps and rocks. BEWARE! Some passages are tricky.

Km 28 : Change direction. Go down several steps to head off to the right and back towards the big baobab tree which serves as a landmark.

Km 28,8 : Cross a track. Panoramic view over the valley. Pass in front of the big baobab tree and follow the small path on the rocky plateau of BANDIAGARA escarpment. After two small ascents, go down to the village of IBI, crossing dwellings on the side of the escarpment.

Km 32 : End of the descent. Cross the village of IBI.

Km 32,5 : Approx. 100m after the school, leave the village via the sandy track on your left and continue to KOUNDOU village.

Km 34 : Tail-point of hill on your left.

Km 36 : 300m crossing of KOUNDOU village.

Km 37 : CP3 on edge of sandy track. Head N/NE (52°) in the wooded valley.
Sandy hill on your right.

Km 41 : Sharp climb up to top of hill. The steep path passes through dogon village of OUGODOGOROU where 1000-year old TELEM dwellings are still inhabited. BEWARE: difficult passages: dogon bridges, stairs and ladders, plus reservoir in narrow gorge.

Km 43 : Cross rocky plateau before difficult descent. Exceptional view.

Km 44 : YOUGOPIRI village at half way point of tricky descent.
Superb TELEM dwellings on your right.

Km 45 : End of the descent. CP4. Take direction N/NE (25°) leaving jagged hill on
your right. Cross hilly, sandy ground.

Km 49,5 : Narrow passage in middle of laterite crevices. Small wood.

Km 50 : Junction point of tracks. Head right and follow sandy track between the trees. Leave hills on your left.

Km 51,5 : Track is lined with small rocks.

Km 52 : Small stone ruins on your right. Hill still on your left.

Km 53 : Go into dogon village of WERE. Follow sandy track still keeping hills to your left.

Km 57 : Enter YANDA village.

Km 58 : CP5 under trees at side of the track. Follow the sandy track.

Km 58,7 : Head right taking the track in middle of the trees.

Km 60 : Cross the first dwellings of the dogon village of BAMBA DEGUERE.

Km 65 : BAMBA village square is at foot of the escarpment. To avoid an area of spikey bushes, take track on the right after the big acacia tree.

Km 65,5 : Take track on left.

Km 66,2 : Take track on left.

Km 67 : Take track on left. Well-shafts 200m further on.

Km 67,7 : Take track which goes off to the right before the dwellings.
Hill is still on your left.

Km 69 : End of dwellings on your left. Keep on the sandy track.

Km 70 : DAGA village in the escarpment on your left.

Km 71,5 : CP6 under the trees. Keep on the sandy track.

Km 73 : TARABOUNDOU village.

Km 73,6 : Dogon village of BAMBA TENNDE. Track starts at the foot of the hill then moves away, direction N/NE (44°).

Km 78,8 : For info.: Round sign-post. Keep on the same sandy track.

Km 79,5 : Cross a break in the branch of wadi.

Km 84 : CP7 NENDE village on your left. Follow the sandy track heading in E/SE direction (115°) up to right tail-point of hill. Crossing of a wooded valley.

Km 84,6 : Take small laterite path going off to the left to reach the tail-point of the hill.

Km 85,8 : You may need to avoid a small lake; go round it and leave it on your right.

Km 87,4 : Tail-point of hill on your left. Cross branch of sandy wadi before sandy climb.

Km 88,5 : Summit of sandy hill. Direction N/NE (48°) up to CP8. View overlooking plain on your left. Hilly terrain.

Km 89,3 : BANGEL area. Small village with Peul huts. Hilly and sandy.

Km 94,8 : Small Peul village of BANGEL on your right.

Km 95,8 : Traversée d'une communauté de cases peuls.
Cross a settlement of Peul huts.

Km 98 : Crevices.

Km 98,5 : CP8 on edge of the sandy hill overlooking the valley. To head for KM102 point, take direction N/NE (52°) passing to the right of a series of crevices. Sandy terrain with savannah bushes and trees.

Km 99,4 : 100 Cross tracks. Savannah.

Km 102 : At Peul huts, take the sandy track going off to the right, head East (94°), aiming for KOROMONTAGA village. Savannah trees.

Km 103,6 : Tracks intersect. Take the one on the right.

Km 104,6 : Cross track. Same direction. Savannah.

Km 107 : KOROMONTAGA village of Peul huts. Continue on track up to village of DOMANI.

Km 107,8 : Peul huts on right of the track. Savannah with some trees.

Km 111 : Cross track just before entering DOMANI village.

Km 111,5 : CP9 on left of the track, after attractive dogon village of DOMANI.
Continue on sandy track.

Km 114,2 : Small wooded area with dense foliage on your right.

Km 117,3 : Cross dogon village of NIAMA NGORO. Attractive mosque on your right.

Km 117,5 : Take central track as you leave the village.

Km 118,2 : et 118,8 Take track on left at junction.

Km 123 : Dogon village of PETAKOLI. Bypass the village, leaving it on your right.

Km 123,5 : CP10 on the right of the track, under the trees. Take sandy track in middle of trees up to TOULA village.

Km 128,7 : Cross TOULA village via the market place.

Km 129 : Well-shafts at end of village. Small track between the trees.

Km 131,7 : Sahelian dead woodland.

Km 135 : Dead woodland continues. Peul huts. Sandy track.

Km 136,5 : CP11 on open area in middle of the forest.

Km 139,5 : GASSE village on your right. Little track.

Km 139,8 : End of village. Follow track direction N/NE (61°) to pick up passage through dead woodland.

Km 141 : You must follow the track through dead woodland; very dense at beginning then more open.

Km 142,5 : Dense dead woodland again. Follow small track.

Km 149 : End of dead woodland.

Km 150 : CP12 near small dwellings in ANGOLGUERE. Continue by following the packed earth track.

Km 151 : You must follow packed earth track to be able to cross the impenetrable area of dead woodland.

Km 154,4 : Small village of ALANGORO on your right. Open terrain then track through dead woodland.

Km 158,3 : Well-shafts on side of the track. Aim for tail-point on right of the hills to N/NE (54°). Go through area of small trees. Packed earth.

Km 160,5 : Small mound of stones near rocks. Continue up to tail-point on right of the hills.

Km 161,5 : Junction with the track. Keep alongside hill on your left, towards CP13.

Km 162 : CP13. Take small sandy path on the left, keeping alongside hill on left.

Km 163,2 : Cross small village.

Km 164 : Having crossed village of NEMGUENE, take North direction (360°) via small path which goes alongside hill on your left.

Km 165,5 : Small village of KOYO DAR SALAM on your right. Follow small laterite path, North direction (349°), crossing the valley and passing to the left of OGUI hill.

Km 167,5 : Junction with the track. Individual rock on your left, OGUI hill on your right.
Follow the packed earth track in order to bypass the impenetrable forest area.

Km 168,7 : Track moves away from edge of hill and crosses the valley.

Km 170,5 : CP14 near settlement of Peul huts. You must carefully follow the marked out route, direction N/NW (326°) for 2.2km in order to cut through the dense woodland.

Km 172,7 : End of woodland. Clearing of sandy ground.

Km 173,4 : End of clearing. Follow the track which goes alongside the trees on the
right leading to OMGA village (at the foot of the hill shaped like shark's teeth).

Km 175,5 : et 176,5 Cross over bands of rock on sandy plain.

Km 177 : OMGA village on your left at the foot of the hill. Follow small path under the trees.

Km 173,3 : Another band of rock. Little track.

Km 178,5 : Junction with the track leading to finish line.

Km 178,8 : SIGUIRI village.

Km 179 : Finish line. SIGUIRI village opposite rocky massif of GANDAMIA.
