Félix the hero
Felix, hero of tent 27, very nearly didn’t make it onto
this year’s Marathon des Sables. Now in his fifties, he was
diagnosed with leukaemia two years ago. Doctors only removed his
catheter two weeks before the start of the race. He took his time
enrolling on the race in the first place: running a marathon in
Carcassonne in 3h00 back in October finally convinced him he was
capable of running the MDS. And what a course !... Félix
finished in the top fifty in the general rankings, a heroic performance
showing great courage and mental strength. His only regret is to
have finished the 76km-stage in 10h00m01, and not 10h00m00s as
he promised himself: a source of frustration for someone mad about
numbers. But the cherry on the top has to be that Felix found out
on the bivouac he was soon to be a grandfather for the first time.
When you think he nearly didn’t come… it would have
been such a shame not to see that magnificent gaulois moustache…
