La Pomme de Terre Cosmique
(The Cosmic Potato)
To say Nathalie is sociable is something of an
understatement. A woman in an otherwise entirely masculine tent,
she has to laugh
along with the lads whatever the jokes. The blokes are the first
to say she has an “iron will”. A journalist with Le
Point magazine, she freely admits to including a weekly trip to
the disco as part of her training programme. Every Friday evening
she drops in on the « pousse au crime » club in Paris
to take in the rugbyman ambiance. With her rasta tresses specially
done for the Marathon des Sables, Nathalie is never without her
headphones when running. And the music on her walkman is varied
to say the least: « commando music of the Full Metal
Jacket style but also French crooner Joe Dassin or Daft Punk ».
During stage 4 in the middle of the night, Nathalie started hallucinating: “all
of a sudden I saw trees moving, people fighting…”.
Not that surprising when you think about it ; she’s something
of an out of the ordinary runner and chose to call her team « the
cosmic potatoes ».
