… like peas in a pod
Junko and Maeda had never met before
but in 1996 they had exactly the same idea of running the Marathon
des Sables. They found themselves
sharing a Berber tent and became inseparable best friends. Since
96 they haven’t missed one single edition of MDS. They train
together and are so fascinated by this course they spend their
rare and precious holidays here. “I love trying to get by
with the absolute minimum” says Maeda, who admits to returning
each year because she’s “never satisfied with my performance”.
Hasumi, the more timid of the two, is a nurse. For her the MDS
is no less than her « yearly objective ». They both
love the desert and the MDS universe making them great ambassadors
for the course in Japan… and for Japan here on the race.
