Lotfi Benmrad (745), the professor

He’s sharing a tent with the Ahansal brothers and when asked to describe him, they waste no time in replying « agharras agharras », a Berber expression that translates as “a decent, honest bloke”. And rigorous with it. It all makes sense given he’s professor of both mathematics and piano. A real music lover, he runs while listening to Glenn Gould at the piano. Who’s his favourite composer? Bach, « because it’s more conventional », naturally. Now on his third MDS he never fails to feature in the top forty and has got the management of his course down to something of a science. But he doesn’t take himself that seriously: “everyone says I’m too serious but what do you expect me to do ? Dress up in a tutu at the finish line ? » This grand mystic often explains that he’s come « for a spiritual experience and to strengthen my faith. I want to learn to be humble ». And why not teach us while he’s at it.

Tamang Furba Buddhi (162), Kedar Singjali (163) and Lawati Yambikari (161) : From Nepal to the Sahara.
Around 200 years ago, the British made war on Nepal.. They were defeated and decided to incorporte Nepalese fighters in the forces of Her Majesty. These elite soldiers came from the Gurkha tribe. Tamang Furba Buddhi (162), Kedar Singjali (163) and Lawati Yambikari (161) are their descendants. British soldiers based in Brunei, they’re taking part in their first Marathon des Sables without seeming to suffer that much. For a start they don’t have a blister between them! They’re accompanied on the expedition by their gallant officer, Edward Janvrin (160). The team may be a bit out of the ordinary on MDS but has already become part of the family. Donnebat! (thank you, as they say in Nepalese)
