In March 2007 Australian marathon runner,
Andrew Cohen, 48, from Yallingup in SW Western Australia,
will contest the MARATHON DES SABLES to raise funds for
the Fred Hollows Foundation.
The Fred Hollows Foundation is a non-government organization
which seeks to eradicate avoidable blindness in developing
countries and to improve the health outcomes of Indigenous
Australians. Since its inception in 1992, The Foundation
has contributed to over 1 million sight restoring operations
and is presently working in over 20 countries worldwide.
Around 50% of blindness in the world is caused by cataracts.
This can be overcome with a relatively simple operation
taking approximately 20minutes and costing as little as
$25.
