Shaun Bacon (AUS - D487) is a Melbourne
teacher who is about to embark on the gruelling Marathon
Des Sables in the Sahara Desert.
It's arguably the toughest footrace on earth, covering
243km over 7 days in the Moroccan desert where temperatures
get up to 50C and plunge to freezing at night. Participants
in this race must carry all their supplies for the week
including food, clothing, sleeping bag, cooking and medical
kit. Only water is distributed en route.
He's doing it to raise money for the charity Facing Africa,
which is working with children affected by the disfiguring
condition Noma.
Shaun is also a keen wildlife photographer.
