15th in the general rankings on the 16th MARATHON
DES SABLES, Jorge AUBESO MARTINE is back for the
4th time and looking to improve his position.
Since his first MDS he’s been travelling
the world looking for new marathons and above all
new challenges. He’s succeeded! 6 times Spain
champion of 100km and world vice champion 100km
in Tokoyo in 2005. But the MDS has something more,
allowing him to both live an adventure lasting
several days and meet new people. It’s the
first time he’s back on the MDS as an exprienced
runner and this is his major challenge of the year.
Jorge has seriously prepared for the race: 3 hours
running a day plus marathons at weekends. An average
of 200km per week.
He sees the three Moroccans (Lahcen and Mohamed
AHANSAL and Abderrahmane MALIKI) as the toughest
competition. But there could still be other surprises – an
unknown runner or the sterling finisher Marco OLMO.
Jorge was surprised by the difficulty of is to
say the least today’s stage, « at
one point I said to myself if you find a shortcut
to
Spain, take it ».
He aims to finish in the top ten; a fitting recompense
for all that hard training.
