Love
of the extreme
Gérard is a highly experienced athlete and
mountaineering specialist. He’s conquered many
of the world’s summits, including Mont Blanc
three times, but it’s the Everest experience
that remains most engraved in his mind. Three weeks
before the expedition, he was diagnosed as having
cancer of the kidneys. 2 weeks and one operation
later he was off nevertheless, looking for new sensations.
Coming down the Tibetan face of Everest some of his
fingers and toes got frostbite and had to be amputated.
That hasn’t stopped Gerard battling on with
his characteristic faith and courage. He’s
now running his first MARATHON DES SABLES and wants
to show you can find a way through cancer or having
lost some of your limbs. Gérard owes this
spirit of victory to his wife and family who’ve
never failed in their support. His perseverance coupled
with humility are much appreciated on the bivouac.
Even if he’s naturally rather shy, he wants
to share his experience with as many competitors
as possible and encourage them to keep fighting and
looking to the future.
Gérard cares little about his place in the
rankings but believes you should “take
nothing for granted, fight constantly and perseverance
will
always pay ».
