A sentimental journey
Love of the desert brought Alfred onto the MARATHON
DES SABLES last year. Since then he’s discovered
a passion for long distance running. He’s
done marathons back to back (50 in 2006) to prepare
for this 22nd edition.
He’s returned for an extra dose of challenge
this year. « My first MDS was exceptional.
I just couldn’t help coming back” he
confesses.
Despite the difficulty and the huge physical effort
needed to finish the 221km, Alfred is convinced that
MDS is the most fantastic marathon he’s ever
done.
He reckons most runners go too fast, have their eye
on the rankings, but forget to make the most of the
race itself. “I’d advise them to learn
to run more slowly to preserve their health and reach
the finish line ».
474th in the general rankings last year, Alfred hopes
to improve his capacity for endurance and therefore
his performance.
Sporting the race number 100 is no happy accident:
this year’s MDS marks his 100th marathon.
