Sport at the highest
level
Team Legendre, from Britany, boasting 25 runners,
organised a stunning “apéritif” on
the bivouac with pastis, “saucisson”,
Corsican wine – a rather surreal moment.
And they’re just warming up… they
have promised us a bagpipes concert in the coming
days. Every body’s warned.
Fair play.
Jordanian Salameh El Aqra’ (71) insisted
on thanking Mohamad Ahansal (1) for lending him
the aspi venom pump he was missing in Ouarzazate.
This kind of gesture is frequent on a race where
solidarity is most certainly not an empty word,
but it becomes particularly significant when
it involves two of the most serious contenders
for the victory…
Superheroes.
His name is Trent Morrow (888) and
he’s
Australian. For a reason of his own, he had to
spend the first day of his first MDS walking
round dressed as “marathon man”,
a figure very similar to superman. Unfortunately,
he won’t be running in his lovely blue
and red tights… What a shame, it would
have been so pretty in the dunes.
Anti doping
Six anti doping tests have been carried
out on the bivouac. The samples were sent to Paris
to be analysed according to French Athletic Federation
regulations.
Emotion
Bruno Hirtz (326) and Vincent Martin Dupray
flew some white kites above the bivouac this
afternoon. Vincent explained how that was a tribute
to his Dad who died of cancer last December,
and who should have been running the Marathon.
Football.
On the bivouac, we have some « ch’tis » (as
the name of people from the North of France goes)
but also friends of Paul Le Guen’s, who
ran the MDS two years ago. Those competitors
were waiting for the result of the football game
between Lens and PSG as part of the Coupe des
Ligues with some anxiety.
On her own ?
Georgia Stansell (534), from Alaska,
left her native snow to meet the challenge of the
Moroccan
dunes. A rather drastic change of scenery for
this brave runner who most of all wanted to know
if she was the first representative of Alaska
to explore the area. It’s most likely.
