Poetry
Rory Coleman (689),
the famous « English
Bulldog », is convinced that to be worthy
of his name he is expected to snore as loudly as
possible. One co-runner sharing his tent described
his astonishing sound productions as akin to those
of a “boar searching for truffles” while
another preferred to refer to some “asthmatic
Donald Duck”.
Erratum
Corbin Leigh (479) took offence that our
website introduced Marianne Demarco (482) as the
only skirted
runner. Please note that Corbin is also wearing
a skirt, and so is Peggy Gaudet (490). Unlike Marianne,
Corbin and Peggy both opted for the little black
number though.
Bouillabaisse
Tent 32 is from Marseille, be warned.
Brought together are a football-chants lover, supporting
the OM (Didier Gauffres, 281), a former recruit
from the Foreign Legion now campaigning for peace
in Tibet (Jalel Somrani, 105) and the lovely Fabienne
Rolland who sweats on the dunes while her husband
is having fun on a quad somewhere in the area.
The football fan and the former legionnaire had
better behave…
Good grade
The French Lycée in Casablanca – lycée
Lyautée for those in the know – has
sent some worthy representatives. Three of their
teachers are running the MDS, while a team of students
is making a documentary on water in the desert – a
project they take most seriously.
Dilemma
Every year the same existential question
haunts the runners, and most particularly the Brits:
what
will be the utmost priority when they get back
to Ouarzazate – shower or beer?
Daryl Mac
Arthur (768) summarized the situation with great
clarity: « we’re likely
to be needing a shower, but we’ll most certainly
be wanting a beer. »
Fantasy
David Soley (826) had never seen a sand
dune in his life before getting to Merzouga the
night before
last. At the end of the opening stage, he said
he had seen enough for the rest of is life. He
would now like to see a swimming pool…
Hunting
Tom Fortune (713), a familiar name in this
section, once again caused great perplexity amongst
his
friends when he announced his dream was to spot
a « golden mole », a rodent that only
lives around here. Just for your information, the
golden mole is not edible.
Hats off
Finishing yesterday’s stage was quite a
struggle for Wong Wai Ming (861). It took him nearly
an hour to walk the last kilometre and reach the
finish line under much applause… about ten
hours after the top competitors. He set off again
this morning with much courage, teaching us all
a great lesson. |
