| First woman to reach
the finish line today, it was with great emotion
that she said: “I dedicate this victory to
my father who died last November”. A few hours
later, under her tent, smiling at last, she was happy
to recognise she is indeed in a strong position to
win the MDS. She spoke of her hometown Ouarzazate,
where everyone is expecting her to win, of her dream
to open up a shop in the city centre, of her eight
brothers and sisters who encourage her to train and
train again. But it was from her friends that we
heard she was nominated earlier this year for the
Khmissa trophy, given to the most deserving Moroccan
women. Something you may like to know: in the Berber
language, Touda means “strong, enduring woman”.
Funnily enough, we weren’t surprised…
