| Paddy was born in Dublin
but grew up in Antibes, just like his childhood best
mate Alain Bernard, world swimming champion. Alain’s
exploits inspired him to join the MDS: “I
was a little jealous, a little stung, so I registered
with the first sport event that came my way, and
it happened to be the MDS. I was a bit late, but
Patrick Bauer let me join, because we were both called
Pat and I was the first Haddock on the race.” On
day one, he felt fully in his element, if a little
dried out. But it got real bad in the next stages,
when the sight of dried out lakes and riverbeds clearly
depressed him. Paddy Haddock hurts.
