At the age of 69, Hans Schmid looks around fifteen years younger with lively blue eyes. I meet him after the 2nd stage. Surprised to see me, he immediately offers me the hospitality of his bivouac;
Hans started running 5 years ago, by chance, during an entrepreneurs’ convention in Chicago.
Invited to a “fun run”, he said “why not?”, gave it a go, didn’t do too badly and has now really caught the bug! He trains regularly as a member of the “Tampala Club” in San Francisco. Hans Schmid has two passions: his business (he is an entrepreneur) and running. Every day, he trains at 5 in the morning before going to work. These days he has slowed down his working rhythm, which leaves him time to accomplish the project close to his heart: to run a major marathon in each continent. In fact, the MDS is his last step. He has already run in King George Town, Antarctica, in the New York marathon, on Machu Pichu, in the Berlin three week event and in the Great Wall of China marathon. He told me, with a smile, that he would have liked to celebrate his 70th birthday with the 25th edition of the MDS, but he was full up!
