Jean-Pierre Vaugon (331-FRA).
Du Bon Usage du Pied.
Tent 23 bears a proud Breton flag and its atmosphere does remind one of a certain Gallic village forever resisting the invader (French comics readers will know which one we mean…)
On the morning of the last stage, Jean-Pierre Vaugon (331- FRA)is inspired to give me a lesson in one of the race fundamentals : at the Sultan Marathon des Sables, there’s no hope if you don’t take daily good care of your feet.
Before each stage, you must carefully wash them with water and soap to get rid of absolutely all sand and dust. You then separate each toe with cotton and you protect your heel so it doesn’t rub. After that, you wrap your whole foot in strap so that nothing moves during the race, and finally you put on your gaiters for overall protection. Doing this every day takes time but it makes a difference. On this final morning, Jean-Pierre is one of the very few runners to be able to boast perfect baby feet!
