| Jorge Aubeso Martinez
(622), zen |
He came 4th last year but this child of Burgos says
he’s “definitely not an aggressive competitor” – a
bit of a paradox for someone who has been accumulating
winning titles for several years: 6 times 100 kilometres
champions in Spain, and Europe and world vice-champion
on the same 100 kilometres… “I run for
those who support me; when I win, they’re often
happier than I am.” And there’s rather
a lot of those happy supporters, in particular amongst
the Burgos youths. When you mention ranking and victory,
he smiles: “I do not run against others, I
just try to do things the way they should be done,
that’s all”. In practical terms, that
means a very specific training for this race, with
many mountain sessions. Jorge emanates a kind of
discreet serenity, hardly disturbed by a painful
knee. Someone to keep a close eye on, for sure…
